Results highlight security effectiveness, manageability and low TCO for StoneGate IPS appliances
ATLANTA – January 28, 2010 - Stonesoft, a provider of proven,
innovative network security solutions, today announced its StoneGate™ IPS-1030, IPS-1060 and
IPS-6105 appliances outperformed several industry-leading solutions according to the latest Network
Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) Comparative Test Report from NSS Labs, Inc. Published in late
December 2009, this report includes the results of extensive evaluations of 15 IPS products from
seven vendors.
Designed to address the challenges faced by IT professionals in selecting and managing
security products, NSS Labs reports offer unbiased, actionable information based on real-world test
data. Using its testing methodology, NSS Labs compared IPS products against 1,159 live exploits in
the industry’s most comprehensive test to date. Ratings were then awarded based on the product’s
security effectiveness, performance and total cost of ownership (TCO). Stonesoft’s StoneGate IPS
solutions were awarded a Neutral rating, indicating that they performed well during the test and
should be considered during the purchasing process.
"Stonesoft showed itself to be a solid player in our test, offering better protection than
several better-known products," said
Rick Moy, president, NSS Labs, Inc. "For a relatively new
entrant into the IPS market, its StoneGate IPS-1060 is an excellent value with additional
improvements in product security."
In the sub-gigabit product category, the StoneGate IPS-1060 had the lowest TCO compared to
its throughput and protection against attacks. At $82 per protected megabit of traffic, the
product’s cost was one-third that of its next nearest competitor. In addition, at the multi-gigabit
level, the StoneGate IPS-6105 ranked second for TCO at only $60 per protected megabit of
traffic.
The report also highlights the following strengths of the Stonesoft IPS solutions tested:
• Above-average protection-to-performance ratio.
• Intuitive and easy-to-use management interface.
• Simple and efficient product deployment, configuration and tuning.
“We are very pleased with the performance of our IPS solutions in NSS Labs’ product tests,”
comments Jeff Hajek, senior vice president of operations at Stonesoft Inc. “The results clearly
show that organizations should re-evaluate what IPS products are leading the market. The very same
companies that are perceived as market leaders may not deliver the security effectiveness,
manageability and TCO that today’s companies need. At the same time, the tests are instrumental in
helping us make sure that we are continually enhancing our solutions to meet the rapidly changing
threat landscape.”
